The U.S. Government’s Methane to Markets Partnership Accomplishments:
EPA’s report shows that in 2008, U.S.-supported M2M projects
achieved methane emissions reductions equivalent to more than 26 million
metric tons of carbon dioxide, roughly the annual greenhouse gas emissions
from 4.7 million passenger vehicles.
- Partnership Accomplishments
2004-2009: The first comprehensive report detailing the achievements
of the 31 Methane to Markets partner governments.
- The Methane to Markets
International Landfill Database: A voluntary, password-protected data
repository to promote the development of landfill gas energy projects. The
success of this database relies on Methane to Markets Partner countries,
project network members, and affiliates to enter landfill-specific data.
The database can be used to identify suitable landfills for landfill gas
to energy project evaluation. It can store the following types of data:
general location and contact information, landfill physical
characteristics, gas collection system characteristics, waste
characteristics, landfill operations, and additional information and
- Landfill Methane Outreach Program
(LMOP): The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s
voluntary assistance and partnership program that promotes the use of
landfill gas as a renewable, green energy source.
