Andrew Ward, a biotechnologist in South Australia, has applied a
unique ???waste-food-chain??? system that can be adapted to many
different industries that produce organic waste. His process
involves pig effluent being fed into a two-stage anaerobic
digester. The resulting nutrients are then used to stimulate the
growth of microalgae or small seaweeds. This begins the base of an
aquatic food chain which leads to zooplankton and eventually fish.
The added aquatic life and help improve the water quality further
for irrigation. This method turns waste into food and save water
(and money)!
