Abstract:
Participatory processes in environmental planning and management involve layers
of complexity –multiple parties, multiple issues, deeply held values, expert and
local knowledge, media influences, and socially embedded conflicts, among them.
In this seminar, Steve Daniels will present an integrative conceptual framework
for thinking about participatory processes. The intent is to provide a map and
compass to navigate through complex conflict-laden, multi-party negotiation
landscapes.
Steve Daniels is a Community Development Specialist in
University Extension and Professor in the Department of Sociology, Social Work,
and Anthropology and in the Department of Environment and Society. Much of Dr.
Daniels professional interests focus on community linkages to natural resources
and in collaborative processes in natural resource management. Steve Daniels
co-authored Working Through Environmental Conflict: The Collaborative Learning
Approach (2001), based on his decades of work with collaborative
processes.
