ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF LITERACY EDUCATION
WITH A SPECIALIZATION IN MIDDLE AND SECONDARY SCHOOL READING
NORTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY
Tenure Track, Beginning August 16, 2011

Position Description:

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in middle school and 
secondary reading education; participate in developing innovative 
undergraduate and graduate teacher education and staff development 
programs in reading education and related areas; conduct research in 
reading and related areas, advise graduate students, and direct 
doctoral dissertations; play a major role in developing the 
department's and the university's reading education programs in both 
campus and off-campus environments, especially in middle school and 
secondary reading.

Required Qualifications:

Earned doctorate with an emphasis in Reading Education, by position 
starting date
Middle school and/or secondary teaching experience
Strong background in middle and/or secondary reading programs
Evidence of a defined program of research and scholarly productivity

Preference will be given to applicants who possess one or more of the 
following qualifications:

Ability to teach a variety of reading courses with emphasis in middle 
and/or secondary reading
Writing and research in middle and/or secondary literacy education
Language and literacy focus
Knowledge of or experience with the use of new technologies in instruction
Experience in consulting and/or staff development
Experience with diverse student populations

Salary:

Nine-month appointment and salary will be competitive. Summer 
teaching is available based on program need and
available resources.
