One bird was heard at 1845 giving the standard
kiki doo (not Kiki Dee) call with a couple of growls.
Exact location was in the wetland on the SE corner
of Bethea SF FR 20 at the railroad tracks. FR 20 is
about a quarter mile west of Eddy on the north
side of SR 2. I usually park at the tracks and scan
the wetland. On the east side of the road there is a
small metal structure for the railroad. The bird sounded
like it was in the wetland just beyond the structure
(that is, in the wetland but not much farther out than
the structure). The bird did not respond to a recording
but there was a lot of ambient noise. This location has
also produced Sora. The area has also been baited for
sparrows on the NE SE and SW corners, only Song and
Swamp thus far this season. Also, FOS Sapsuckers on
FR 6 where the road turns just north of the microwave
tower (which has nesting Rough-winged Swallows in
the summer).
