RE:    Latin American FLAS Fellowship Application Deadlines: February 1 and March 1

 

 

FLAS Academic Year Fellowships (Deadline: February 1)

 

Through support from the U.S. Department of Education, the UF Center for Latin American Studies offers Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Academic Year Fellowships to support training in Brazilian Portuguese and Haitian Creole. The application deadline for AY 2011-12 is 1 February 2011. For graduate students, the fellowship covers tuition and fees for 12 graduate credit hours per semester, provides a stipend of $17,000 total for the Fall and Spring semesters, and includes GatorGradCare coverage. For undergraduate students, the fellowship covers tuition and fees not already covered by other financial aid or scholarships (up to a maximum of $10,000) and provides a scholarship of $5,000 total for the Fall and Spring semesters. Applicants must be full-time UF graduate or undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Undergraduate applicants must have at least intermediate proficiency in Portuguese or Haitian Creole. There is no proficiency requirement for graduate applicants. FLAS Summer Fellowships (Application Deadline: March 1)

 

Through support from the US Department of Education, the UF Center for Latin American Studies offers Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Summer Fellowships. FLAS Summer Fellowships support participation in an intensive study program of a less-commonly-taught Latin American language (i.e., Brazilian Portuguese, Haitian Creole, Maya, Quechua, etc.). The fellowship covers the majority of program-related fees. When possible, the award also includes a travel stipend. Applications for Summer 2011 are due 1 March 2011. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents currently enrolled full-time at UF as undergraduate or graduate students. UF undergraduate applicants must have at least intermediate proficiency in their selected language of study. There is no proficiency requirement for graduate students.
