At 9 this morning Al counted 51 Limpkins from the fishing pier at the Lake
Townsen boat ramp on the Withlacoochee River, which borders Sumter and
Hernando Counties. Some of the Limpkins were eating large exotic snails. All
of the birds were on the far side of the river, so a scope is useful.

Lake Townsen Regional Park fishing pier and boat ramp is on CR-476, Lake
Lindsey Road. To reach this from Brooksville, drive about 7 miles north on
US-41, and turn east at the flashing light onto CR-476, Lake Lindsey Road.
Drive 4.4 miles east to the entrance to Lake Townsen Regional Park fishing
pier and boat ramp on the north side of the road, a few yards east of the
bike trail crossing. (Ignore the main entrance to this park, which is half a
mile west of the boat ramp road.) The town of Nobleton is about a mile east
of the boat ramp entrance.
