College students do not need to be protected from  the reality of how all of this (bioenergy science and tecknology) relates to what one believes.  it is evil profit driven companies and god government that in one way or the other enable they to study "this" science.  What one believes affects every thing one does, and if there is one thing on the minds of all Americans now is energy and how it is obtained, how profit driven companies (individual men and women) take their ideas and capital to produce the energy that flows in  to our tanks and threw the wires into our homes and our business. WITH OUT DEBATING AND SHARING ALL SUBJECTY RELATED IDEAS OUR COLLEGE STUDENTS WILL  BE CUT OFF FROM A WELL ROUNDED EDUCATION BEING FREE TO LOOK AT EVERY THING VS SITTING IN A WELL CONFINED SET OF EDUCATIONAL boxes.  if one wish's to educate college students and other interested parties in this field, then one must have 'an open field' to make it truely dynamic 'field.'  Control of the debate/discusion/training/instruction/beliefs/thoughts/idea's/ ''only keeps those listening in 'a box'.  Freedom of though is not free of debat, but encourages it in every area of life.  Question every thing, including this, but one does not limit or prevent it from those desiring to Understand in truth.   thank you.

What kind of nut thinks that profit driven companies want what is good for America and Americans versus government?

Teabagger nut?

this is all well and good, but we must stop and think and consider.  Our founding fathers intended for it (these type of things) to be done at the lowest level with the lest amount of government hands in the pot.  private is nearly in all cases is better.   it is not Right or even Constitual correct to tax every one in the usa and give that money for a bus system in gainsville fl while the people in moultrie ga don't have a free bus system.(cities and people of each are only examples, and can be swithched with any other two cities in our nation). you must not do for one what you will not do for another,  a maxium of law and our (supposed) of government.

if the people in gainsville want a bus system and even provide it as a "free bus ride" (some one still has to pay for the bus', drivers, system, gov retirement of.the workers, oh and fuel) then it is up to the people of gainsville to tax them selves.  IT is not  for the political fathers in gainsville to have some grant writer draft up some fancy writen grant to submit to   have some polititian to get fat back pork $$ in wdc that comes from the flesh of the people of moultrie ga, or any were else to send to gainsville fl so they can receive  the grant, or matching funding for their 'desired for free bus system', that now has gainsville tied also at the hip to the fed gov't.  In this case it is up to the local people to deciede their wants and needs and how they are to fund it, not the states  and most certaintly not the Federal Government!

This also applies to Fracking etc.  the fact and truth of the matter, Federal Government should have very little to do with any of this, especially since it is controled by polititians (which are nearly all lawyer/Esquires---Note--of the 526 people elected and or appointed (supreme court justices) who rule for us [what is to be a representive republic and NOT a demoracy!] nearly every one of them is a lawyer/esquire)  and they control or are controled by a burocracy that is totaly out of control.  Do you realy trust them to make good decisions for any of us,   they take your/my dollar that we send them in tax, put  it in their big pot, so they can give us back 17 cents with strings attached so that we can feel good about what the lawyer (in most cases) we elected is doing for us.               oy veh.

please forgive any spelling, i am an awful speller and my email for some reason does not have a spell check!

investing in public transit and bike lanes are things we can do locally to help the situation. I wonder how much revenue it would take to offer free bus service - I'll bet it would increase ridership.
It WOULD be nice if people concerned for the future were not so vilified in our country, and if people wouldnt look at the environment as some sort of special interest group pet project. Our economy is TOTALLY dependent on the environment, but not vice-versa.
And I think it is good for people to be able to bring questions like this to the group, I have learned from it-Thanks!

ORION Magazine has some really good articles about Fracking (Hydrofracturing)….possibly one of the biggest environmental atrocities since mountaintop removal.

Curbing consumption is what we all need to be talking about…this SHOULD be something conservatives and liberals alike can get behind.  Our insatiable appetite for energy is not a political problem….it is a societal one.

I remember coming across the report in '07 during some investment research.  It is true that their appears to be "oil" reserves in Bakken, but if I am not mistaken it is mostly in the form of shale oil.  Several of the  companies in control of mineral rights in the area have mobilized this information in an attempt to raise capital, even employing some rather unscrupulous methods of coercion.  If you ask a good stock broker about this info they will tell you to save your money.

Its too bad, this message seems more politically motivated.  If you want to know more, read about shale hydrofracturing.

Anyone ever heard this info?

could this be true?

I checked out the articles, and they appear to be up to snuff!  Why hasn't somebody DONE something about this???  If you're as sick of high gas prices as I am, then at least send this on to others, and pass the word.  Maybe somebody "official" will take the ball and roll with it!

Can you believe this! Gas should be back to $.34 a gallon.
>>        About 6 months ago, the writer was watching a news program on oil and one of the Forbes Bros. was the guest. The host said to Forbes, "I am going to ask you a direct question and I would like a direct answer;  how much oil does the U.S. have in the ground?"  Forbes did not miss a beat, he said, "more than all the Middle East put together."  Please read below.
>>        The U. S. Geological Service issued a report in April 2008 that only scientists and oil men knew was coming, but man was it big.  It was a revised report (hadn't been updated since 1995) on how much oil was in this area of the western 2/3 of North Dakota, western South Dakota, and extreme eastern Montana ..... check THIS out:
The Bakken is the largest domestic oil discovery since Alaska 's Prudhoe Bay , and has the potential to eliminate all American dependence on foreign oil. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimates it at 503 billion barrels. Even if just 10% of the oil is recoverable... at $107 a barrel, we're looking at a resource base worth more than $5...3 trillion.        "When I first briefed legislators on this, you could practically see their jaws hit the floor. They had no idea.." says Terry Johnson, the Montana Legislature's financial analyst.
"This sizable find is now the highest-producing onshore oil field found in the past 56 years," reportsThe Pittsburgh Post Gazette.  It's a formation known as the Williston Basin , but is more commonly referred to as the 'Bakken.'  It stretches from Northern Montana , through North Dakota and into Canada .  For years, U. S. oil exploration has been considered a dead end.  Even the 'Big Oil' companies gave up searching for major oil wells decades ago. However, a recent technological breakthrough has opened up the Bakken's massive reserves..... and we now have access of up to 500 billion barrels.  And because this is light, sweet oil, those billions of barrels will cost Americans just $16 PER BARREL!
That's enough crude to fully fuel the American economy for 2041 years straight.  And if THAT didn't throw you on the floor, then this next one should - because it's from 2006!
U.. S. Oil Discovery- Largest Reserve in the World

      Stansberry Report Online - 4/20/2006
Hidden 1,000 feet beneath the surface of the Rocky Mountains lies the largest untapped oil reserve in the world. It is more than 2 TRILLION barrels.  On August 8, 2005 President Bush mandated its extraction. In three and a half years of high oil prices none has been extracted. With this motherload of oil why are we still fighting over off-shore drilling?        They reported this stunning news:  We have more oil inside our borders, than all the other proven reserves on earth.. Here are the official estimates:
        - 8-times as much oil as Saudi Arabia
        - 18-times as much oil as Iraq
          - 21-times as much oil as Kuwait

         - 22-times as much oil as Iran
        - 500-times as much oil as Yemen
        - and it's all right here in the Western United States .
HOW can this BE? HOW can we NOT BE extracting this? Because the environmentalists and others have blocked all efforts to help America become independent of foreign oil! Again, we are letting a small group of people dictate our lives and our economy.....WHY?
James Bartis, lead researcher with the study says we've got more oil in this very compact area than the entire Middle East -more than 2 TRILLION barrels untapped.  That's more than all the proven oil reserves of crude oil in the world today, reports The Denver Post.
Don't think 'OPEC' will drop its price - even with this find? Think again!  It's all about the competitive marketplace, - it has to. Think OPEC just might be funding the environmentalists?
Got your attention yet?  Now, while you're thinking about it, do this:

Pass this along.  If you don't take a little time to do this, then you should stifle yourself the next time you complain about gas prices - by doing NOTHING, you forfeit your right to complain.
Now I just wonder what would happen in this country if every one of you sent this to every one in your address book.
By the way...this is all true. Check it out at the link below!!!
GOOGLE it, or follow this link.  It will blow your mind.
