Recently re-read the article by Borgatti/Everett on core-periphery structures (Models of core/periphery structures, Social Networks 21 (1999), 375-395) and got curious about would-be follow-up articles, critiques and comments on their approach to formalize such structures - though with 500+ citations, its quite a lot of articles to wade through.
In short: what articles/papers are out there that builds upon/criticize this initial attempt at formalization of core-periphery structures?
