Dear Tejashwini,
author networks, in general, mainly analyze the collaboration networks that evolve among authors over time. pattern of collaboration sturctures could potentially be analyzed to explore what kind of collaboration is conducive for individual authors. The performance of individual authors can be measured using information such as h-index, number of citation attracted and many more.
However, analysis of author network is very context sensitive. Collaboration structure in one domain could be significantly different than that of other domain. The order of authors in a scientific paper is also play a significant role in exploring author networks, but this could have different meaning in different domains.
to begin with, you may try to read some recent papers from Scientometrics and Informetrics paper.
Best wishes
