In respect of social network analysis, what is the difference between network evolution and network adaptation?

 

Arguably, evolution is cause and adaptation is the effect. Opposite arguments can also be evidenced in literature.

 

For longitudinal networks, how do you distinguish the evolution phase and adaptation phase?
