That's what I had heard as well. However, a quick review of all the packs, I like the core pack and all of those books/materials live on my bookshelf here in my office. I also think our ARMA chapter has all of these materials already and they're available for check-out. Check with your chapters and see what they have.
 
When I decided to give the CRM exams a shot, I applied and was accepted. I was advised to take all five parts. I passed 4 of the exams right off the bat. Part 2 was a bugger for me and the only exam I studied for. Part 6 was a different can of worms. Took me 2 tries mainly because I didn't follow the directions and we had a fire alarm right in the middle of the first case study. 
 
I did study with a partner for a time. I think a study group would be more than worth it. If that isn't a possibility then contact the ICRM and check into a mentor.
