Veteran unemployment is high throughout the US, especially in rural and agricultural communities. There are several groups working to bring veterans and sustainable agriculture together. Veterans, especially those with disabilities, find it difficult to return to jobs within agriculture. The USDA includes veterans as a minority now under the Farm Bill. Archi's Acres in Southern California is one of the main programs supported by the USDA. The farm offers training programs for veterans where they learn new farming techniques.
Creating connections between sustainable agriculture and other areas is important for spreading the idea of sustainability. It's great to see so many programs that support sustainable agriculture and our US veterans.
Have a great Monday!
