Holiday Greetings Roy: Per a prior post, please visit: Cornell's Ebird
website for an overview of the Razorbill invasion and discussion regarding
likely causes of the historic irruption. You do not have to join or log-in
to access and read the feature. (Unless there have been recent editions to
the site, it was the second feature listed)

Subject: [FLORIDABIRDS-L] Razorbill questions

Since Razorbills normally spend the winter far at sea in northern latitudes
and normally come inshore only to breed, has anyone that is knowledgeable
about this species advanced any theories or guesses as to why they have come
south to semi tropical inshore waters in such unprecedented numbers? Can it
have anything to with the Big Storm on the East coast or perhaps a shortage
of their preferred fish prey up North?

I am also wondering, if they survive, how long they might remain so easily
accessible to shore-bound observers before returning to their northern seas?
