Barry,

Although not social network-centric per se, we've been regularly
commenting about these issues from a sociological & political
perspective at Stanford Liberationtech's Twitter feed:
https://twitter.com/Liberationtech.

Discussion has also taken place at our mailing list:
https://mailman.stanford.edu/mailman/listinfo/liberationtech.

For more info on the program, please see:
http://liberationtechnology.stanford.edu/.

Best,
Yosem

Zeynep Tufekci is doing great work from Istanbul reporting via Twitter on
the protests -- by twitter @zeynep -- and I think blog. But she is so busy,
that is is mostly been twitter. She is in Gezi park and Taksim almost all
the time.

For those who havent been to Istanbul, Taksim area is like Times Square,
Leicester Square, etc -- all rolled into one -- the hub of Istanbul.

Barry,

I was waiting for a thread on these topics also.  The spread of the
Turkish protests is very interesting, started with a small group protesting
in a park, and now...

There is an article in Science this morning with network scientists
interviewed about the NSA surveillance...

Maybe listservs are no longer where these discussions take place?  Maybe
now it is Twitter and blogs???

I am flabbergasted that there has been no discussion on this list -- or
even announcement -- of the NSA's use of social network analysis to do
massive surveillance of American and unAmerican populations.

Nor any talk of the Turkish situation -- seems to fit Chuck Tilly's
network-basis analyses of collective political behaviour.
