### Executive Summary

We seek to demonstrate that using recently developed quantum processing units could transform and accelerate scientific computing in the post-exascale era. Such quantum hardware could exponentially speed up the simulation of quantum systems as well as calculations requiring the solving of linear systems of equations—two applications that, combined, represent most of the computational resources used annually by the Department of Energy.
