It's what the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit held on Oct. 19,
1981. But the Supreme Court reversed the lower court's decision by a single
vote, opening the floodgates to digital home recording—and preparing the
way for cloud computing, remote digital storage and even the Internet
itself.
