Welcoming new Student-Families at UF: PhDMoms host event to bring fun and information
GAINESVILLE, Fl. — Food, fun, and information is the theme for this year’s big welcoming event organized by PhDMoms, one of the University of Florida’s student organizations.
“The focus of the event is to reach UF students and their dependents and provide them with information and resources from UF and the greater Gainesville area”, said Kirsten Hecht, second year doctoral student in Interdisciplinary Ecology at the School of Natural Resources. “Students from all levels are invited.”
Student-Families, particularly those new to UF and Gainesville, have unique questions and concerns, and PhDMoms started hosting this event last year to cater specifically to their needs. Last year’s event was very successful with around 350 people attending.
“And we hope to have fun with as many people this year as well,” added co-president Geraldine Klarenberg, third year doctoral student in Agricultural and Biological Engineering.
This year there will be tons of information tables from UF and local organizations, bounce houses for the children, face paint, games, door prizes (UF Bookstore Gator Swag, Satchels Gift Card, among others), free food, and a visit of Albert and Alberta (from 12 to 1pm).
