Subject: White-winged Scoters - roseate spoonbill

Lanceford Creek, Nassau County: This has been "the winter" for sightings of
white-winged scoters in Florida, but another sighting this morning was quite
unusual. Ca 24 WWSC were observed along the marsh bank of Lanceford Creek
in Nassau County on this morning's high tide. This location is ca 5 miles
inland of the ocean and well inland even of the intercoastal waterway
passing behind Amelia Island. Apparently, the scoters have found a food
source along the marsh creek and are quite content so far inland from the
ocean. Prior to the scoter sighting, 3-4 roseate spoonbill were sighted on
another marsh island just west of downtown Fernandina.
