A group of five state senators from north-central Florida have introduced a Springs and Aquifer Protection bill in the Florida legislature this session, which just passed out of its first committee yesterday. However, House Speaker Will Weatherford recently announced that he does not expect the House to consider any water-policy legislation in the current session. Additionally, a group of 23 powerful industry lobbies have formed a coalition to oppose the legislation (http://www.ocala.com/article/20140207/ARTICLES/140209728 ).

This Friday at 11:00, state Representatives Matt Caldwell (chair, Ag & Natural Resources Subcommittee of the State Affairs Committee) and Kathleen Passidomo will be at the Graham Center for an informal discussion about this bill:  http://www.bobgrahamcenter.ufl.edu/event/springs-protection-2014-florida-legislature

The event is free and open to the public.
