Subject: Unpaid Internships Available at St. Johns River Water Management District - Fall 2014

The St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) is offering the Unpaid Internships described below for the Fall 2014 term. Internships will start September 2, 2014  and end on December 5, 2014 . Students will be assigned to a mentor who will provide training and instruction. All internships are available in our Palatka office.

The following opportunities are available for junior, senior, or graduate level as indicated.

Bureau: Environmental Resource Regulation
Job Summary: Assist in the review of ERP applications for consistency with District environmental criteria; assess environmental impacts of proposed projects upon wetlands and surface waters of the District; evaluate wetland conditions and review proposals involving wetland mitigation; assist in the review of projects for compliance with permit conditions as well as assisting staff with the enforcement of District ERP rules.
Preferred grade level: Undergraduate Junior

Job Summary:  Creating customized maps and comparative analysis of model results
Preferred grade level: Graduate

Bureau: Water Use and Planning Regulation
Job Summary:  Working with statistical databases and statistical analysis

Bureau: Water Resource Information (2 internships)
Job Summary:  Assist an environmental science team with various environmental data collection events along the St. Johns River, intracoastal waterways, tributaries to the St. Johns River and other water bodies within the District.
Preferred grade level: Senior or Graduate

Bureau: Environmental Sciences
Job Summary:  The intern may perform some fieldwork in September assisting Environmental Sciences (ES) and Lake Apopka Field Station (LAFS) staff with data collection on the 2014 SAV Survey.  The intern would also perform GIS work using the GPS files collected during the 2014 SAV Survey to map SAV locations and to project the total amount of SAV on the lake.
Preferred grade level: Senior or Graduate

Bureau: Engineering and Hydro Science
Job Summary:  Provide GIS/Engineering support to the Engineering staff that are engaged in the development of watershed models associated with the Springs Initiative
Preferred grade level: Junior or Senior

Bureau: Environmental Resource Regulation
Job Summary:  Assist in the review of ERP, CUP and WWC applications and compliance activities for consistency with District engineering criteria; assesses flooding, water quality engineering calculations and their impacts; evaluate site conditions insuring construction as builts as well as assisting staff with the enforcement of District rules.
