The Institute for Sociology and the Institute for Empirical Social Research (EMPAS) at the University of Bremen is inviting applications for a post doctoral scholar position (full-time, 3 years) in Methods of Empirical Social Research.


We are searching a highly motivated and excellently qualified postdoctoral scientist with a PhD degree and research experience in empirical social research, ideally social network analysis for 3 years starting as of November 2014.

The postdoctoral researcher will be working with the research group of Prof. Dr. Betina Hollstein. Our research topics include social networks, life-course, social inequality, and methods of empirical social research (qualitative and quantitative). The position includes cooperation in joint research projects, publications, and teaching (B.A. „Sociology“, Research Master Program „Sociology and Empirical Social Research”, stream “social network research”).


We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with the following requirements:

•             Completed PhD degree, ideally in sociology or a related social science;

•             a substantial expertise in methods of empirical social research (qualitative, quantitative or social network analysis) and

•             advanced language skills in English, both in speaking and writing.


Desired skills are

•             a strong expertise in one of the above mentioned research topics and

•             teaching experience in one of the above mentioned research topics and/or methods.

Salary and benefits are linked to the German employee scale TVL13. International candidates are highly encouraged to apply.
