Faculty Position in Emerging Media
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR - EMERGING MEDIA
Applications are invited for an assistant professor position within the area of New Media. The successful candidate will teach in the Emerging Media degree program, a unique undergraduate course of study. The Emerging Media program bridges the gap between communications and computer science, integrating the creative and inquiry-oriented skills associated with communications and media studies with the applied elements of computing. The candidate should have broad theoretical and practical knowledge of new media and communication, as well as expertise in areas such as computer-mediated communication, information science, and the social and legal implications of emerging media. The individual filling this position will contribute to our unique interdisciplinary approach and will teach courses at all levels of the Emerging Media program and the Television-Radio Program. The candidate will have the opportunity to teach courses that encompass media industries, media law and policy, research methods, and entrepreneurial development, in addition to courses in the candidate’s own area of expertise. Additional opportunities will include work with our students on a wide array of forward thinking media projects, research aligned with the candidates area of expertise, and the chance to teach courses at the graduate level, including our Executive Masters in Communications Innovation program. The successful applicant will collaborate in forging a lively, engaging intellectual and creative environment and will take part in shaping an evolving curriculum in one of the strongest undergraduate communications schools in the country. All faculty are responsible for contributing to an exceptional environment for student learning in and out of classes, including academic advising; engaging in recognized scholarly, creative, and /or professional work that, where possible, crosses and integrates the various disciplines in our curricula; and providing service to the department, school, college, and professional community, such as committee work.
Required: Ph.D. in Communication, Information Science, or closely related discipline (ABD will be considered if anticipated date of completion is prior to October 2015); research program in the area of new and emerging media; demonstrated ability to produce publishable quality research; university/college teaching experience in new media and communication.
