Dana - sorry for the late response. Training, training and more training. 1st - it help professionalize the tutors and gives them some theoretical foundations to their practice. 2nd - it helps build them as a "community of practice," which can help them support one another, helps in recruiting new tutors, and encourages them to talk about their practice. I've had to lobby hard for the training we have for the tutors. And after 2.5 years of gentle pushing - in the fall our Writing Center Consultants will take a class (for credit) as part of their training. Hope this helps (and isn't too late). If you were asked to create a wish list for your tutoring program, what would you include (other than a new space!)? I'm thinking along the lines of tutor training and support and/or programmatic support. Does anyone use or know anything about TutorLingo or other online training resources? Thanks for you help!
