Here's the truth behind the latest twists in the site selection for the
future Obama presidential library and museum: If this project goes
elsewhere, the blame will lie with the highhanded library foundation and
the president it represents, not the city of Chicago.

In *leaks to reporters
<http://news.uchicago.edu/behind-the-news/obama-presidential-library/faq>*,
the Barack Obama Foundation let it be known last month that it was unhappy
with the two remaining local bidders for the library. The *University of
Chicago

doesn't own the public parkland where it was proposing to situate the
library, the anonymous complainers said. And the less financially
blessed *University
of Illinois at Chicago <https://presidential-library.uic.edu/>* has some
hard-to-fathom shortcomings in the constancy of its leadership. Thus, they
whispered, well-endowed Columbia University in New York was emerging as a
real contender as the made-up deadline for a decision nears.

"The problems of our economy have occurred not as an outgrowth of
laissez-faire, unbridled competition.
They have occurred under the guidance of federal agencies, and under the
umbrella of federal regulations."
Senator Ted Kennedy, in defending trucking deregulation in 1978.
