Migrant Organisational Networks in Europe. The successful

and International Relations) and
The doctoral project would draw from the vast amount of
network information available - and currently under-analyzed -
of the FP6 project Localmultidem led
by Professor Morales and completed in 2009. That project led to
a large number of outcomes based on a survey undertaken to
representative samples of individuals of both migrant and
autochthonous/majority populations in 10 European cities
(Barcelona, Budapest, Geneva, London, Lyon, Madrid, Milan, Oslo,
Stockholm, and Zurich). However, another major component of that
project was a survey undertaken with the representatives of the
civil society organisations of all the migrant groups studied in
all these cities (except Oslo), plus Murcia (Spain). This survey
enquired about the multiple connections, collaborations and
joint activities undertaken by the migrant organisations
interviewed both with other migrant organisations and with
autochthonous/majority population organisations in their
respective cities. The result is a very rich dataset on
organisational connections and fields that can be analysed from
many different empirical and theoretical perspectives.
The successful applicant will join the Leicester Migration Network actively, as well as other initiatives through the Parties, Participation, and Public Opinion Research Cluster and the Leicester Inter-Disciplinary Workshop on Elections, Public Opinion, Participation, and Parties. This Graduate Research Assistantship will be of particular interest to those who hold a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Maths (STEM) undergraduate degree and can show an interest - as indicated by a specialisation in the Masters degree and dissertation - in the areas of migration, associations, and/or political participation. Applicants who hold an undergraduate degree in a social science subject but can show postgraduate-level training in mathematics and/or computer sciences will also be considered.
