Dear colleague,

We’d like to cordially invite you to submit a 2-page extended abstract to a workshop on “Religion on Social Media” (https://sites.google.com/site/religiononsocialmedia/), held in conjunction with ICWSM at Oxford University on May 26 (http://www.icwsm.org/2015/index.php).

The extended abstract deadline is *March 20, 2015* and abstracts must be submitted through this online platform: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=religionicwsm2015

Note that the workshop’s website (https://sites.google.com/site/religiononsocialmedia/#resources) also makes *available certain data sets* to be explored for such an abstract.

We’re proud to have three excellent keynote speakers at this event:

* Robin Dunbar, Oxford University, anthropologist and evolutionary psychologist

* Yasmine Hafiz, London School of Economics, former Associate Editor of the Huffington Post's Religion section

* Peter Webster, Webster Research and Consulting Ltd, historian of contemporary British religious history

The focus of this workshop is the study of religious communities in social media, providing a venue for social and religious studies scholars to interact with researchers employing web mining, information extraction, network science, and other computational methods. Both qualitative and quantitative studies are welcome from both religious studies and computer science scholars. The topics may include, but will not be limited to, the following:

- religious communities & support structures

- social media as an alternative space for faith

- network properties of religious communities

- connectedness between different religions

- sentiment analysis of religious expression

- religious authority

- ritual online

- religious conflicts and their ramifications online

- religious contextualization of news

- quotation of religious texts and figures

We look forward to your submission and to seeing you in Oxford!
