Position in Data Science/Network Science/Computational Science

The University of Lugano is seeking a post-doctoral researcher interested in contributing to the development of the next generation of statistical and computational models for the analysis of large-scale network data. The position is based in the Faculty of Informatics, and involves a dual affiliation to the Institute of Computational Science (ICS) and to the newly established Interdisciplinary Institute of Data Science (IDS).

The successful candidate will be a member of the part of an international team working on the project: "Snowball sampling and conditional estimation for exponential random graph models for large networks in high performance computing environments." The project is supported by the Platform for Advanced Scientific Computing (PASC: http://www.pasc-ch.org/) and will be carried out at the University of Lugano in collaboration with the Swiss National Supercomputing Center (http://www.cscs.ch/index.html).

The project involves collaboration between Professor Alessandro Lomi at the Social Network Analysis Research Center (SONAR: http://www.sonarcenter.eco.usi.ch/), Professor Rolf Kruse at the Institute of Computational Science (ICS: http://www.ics.usi.ch/), and Doctor Alex Stivala and Professor Garry Robins at the Social Networks Laboratory (Melnet), University of Melbourne (http://sna.unimelb.edu.au/).

Ideal candidates have obtained a Ph.D. from an internationally recognized academic institution in computer science, physics, mathematics, statistics, or adjacent fields with a significant computational aspect. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate at least some experience with: (i) Scientific computing on supercomputers or cluster environments; (ii) Parallel computing using the Message Passing Interface MPI and multi-threading (OpenMP, pthreads), hybrid architectures, and Programming in C, C++ or a related languages. Candidates with a demonstrated interest in network science and computational social science will have a strong advantage.

The position is full time and is tenable for two years starting from as early as April 1st, 2015. The position will remain open until filled.

Interested candidates should send a covering letter expressing their interest for the position, a short statement of research interests, and a CV to Professor Alessandro Lomi: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>
