Hello everyone,
This is a call for papers for a special issue co-edited by Silvia Dominguez and Cid Martinez on cross-racial and ethnic relationships. The deadline for submissions is September 15, 2015.
Why do people develop relationships across racial and ethnic boundaries? What do people gain from these heterogeneous networks?
In the face of an increasingly complex society, people seek out others with the same ethnic and racial background; they are more likely to bond with those who do not push them outside their comfort zone. Furthermore,
research has shown that homophile continues to exert a strong force on people’s choice of relationships even in social networking sites (e.g. Facebook). Nevertheless, statistics have shown an increase in the number of interracial marriages, which could speak
to the emergence of networks falling across ethnic and racial boundaries. This special issue provides a window into the social mechanisms that foster and maintain such relationships.
