The biannual meeting of the International Society for the Empirical Study of Literature
and Media (IGEL) will be held at Palmer House in Chicago, July 6-9, 2016.
What is IGEL?

If you are new to IGEL, it is aimed at the advancement of empirical literary research
through international and interdisciplinary cooperation. The principal duties of the
Society are to support scientific projects through information and cooperation, to further
personal contact in all areas of research supported by the Society, to support students
and junior researchers in the field of empirical literary research, to press for the
application of empirical results, and to organize international conferences.

Paper Formats

The conference will consist of spoken paper and poster sessions and symposia. This
range of formats affords scholars to choose an option that is best suited to
disseminating your work and getting valuable feedback from the IGEL community.
Additionally, there will be keynote address from internationally renowned scholars.

Scientific Study of Literature

Scientific Study of Literature (SSOL) is the official journal of IGEL (the International
Society for the Empirical Study of Literature). IGEL membership includes a subscription
to SSOL. SSOL is an interdisciplinary endeavor that publishes manuscripts that utilize
an empirical approach and make a significant contribution to the understanding of
literary phenomena in different media formats (text, film, drama, performance, etc.).

One benefit of attending the conference is that there is a special issue dedicated to the
conference. While papers submitted to the journal will undergo a per review process,
the special issue provides an opportunity to publish your scholarly efforts in a timely
