ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The INTO USF Center was established in 2010 on the Tampa campus of the University of South Florida. This Center offers programs that serve international students, providing academic and language support while students are either preparing for university study in the English Language Program, or are completing university courses in the Pathway Program. These programs provide extensive support toward academic and social success of the students. One aspect of the academic support provided is the INTO USF Tutoring Center, which serves all students in all academic programs.

POSITION SUMMARY:
This Learning Specialist position at INTO USF is a full-time position that works with international students who have been identified with suspected or diagnosed learning disabilities. This position is responsible for coordinating with the office of Students with Disabilities Services, advisors, coordinators, instructors, and tutors to help students develop academic plans and utilize accommodations. The primary role of the Learning Specialist is to meet with the assigned INTO USF student caseload to develop and improve the academic learning experience of each student according to their individualized learning plans. In addition the Learning Specialist works closely with the Assistant Director in developing supplemental tutoring programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Learning Specialist serves as the INTO USF liaison to the office of Students with Disabilities Services at USF; screens students to identify the level of academic support needed and determines if learning disability testing should be recommended.
Provides support for INTO USF students registered at the office of Students with Disabilities Services and helps students understand policies and procedures related to academic accommodations and related services.
Monitors and documents weekly progress of the assigned caseload and reviews with the Assistant Director.
Assists students in the development of academic and related skills, such as learning strategies (test preparation, note taking, reading comprehension, writing), time management, organization, self-advocacy, productive study habits and setting and tracking manageable academic goals for weekly and semester objectives; assesses student progress at the end of the semester.
Oversees the Bridge Tutoring program; oversees the Study Sessions program.
Collaborates with the Assistant Director for a variety of projects including presenting topics in tutor training meetings, conducting tutor observations, and other administrative duties.
Attends weekly academic staff meetings.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Master's degree in education or a field of study related to the academic program, or a Bachelors degree in those same fields with a minimum of two years of experience.

PREFERRED:
The preferred qualifications include having a Masters degree from an accredited college or university in School Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Special Education or related field. Two years experience in a related position. Experience working with at-risk students at the collegiate level in a multicultural and/or international environment. Familiarity with Supplemental Instruction.  Knowledge of and experience with USF policies and procedures relating to academics and the office of Students with Disabilities Services.

SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:
Ability to assess students in need of remediation. Ability to develop academic interventions specific to students learning styles. Ability to interpret educational testing results to develop and explain learning strategies that meet the individual needs of each student. Knowledge and application of learning strategies and study skills. Strong leadership and organizational skills. Ability to work collaboratively with others. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint). Knowledge of various database programs such as GradesFirst, Banner, FileMaker. Ability to prioritize, dealing with multiple tasks at the same time. Excellent attention to detail. Excellent time management skills. Ability to keep detailed, accurate records. Ability to communicate with students from a wide range of linguistic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
