UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA SANTA BARBARA, Department of Geography invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of Spatial/Environmental/Geographic Cognition. Candidates must have primary research and teaching interests in one or more of the following: spatial cognition/neuroscience, navigation and wayfinding, cognitive issues in geographic information science & systems, cognitive semantics and spatiotemporal ontologies, cognition of maps and other geographic visualizations, spatial decision-making and health, spatial-geographic education. UCSB Geography is highly interdisciplinary; in addition to geography or cartography, applicants with broad interests in psychology, linguistics, computer science, cognitive science, or related fields will be considered. A Ph.D. is required by the date of appointment. The Department of Geography has strengths in three broadly defined areas: (1) human geography; (2) earth system science; (3) modeling, measurement, and computation. We provide opportunities for interactions with many other departments and research units on the campus, including the Center for Spatial Studies, the Sage Center for the Study of the Mind, the Brain Imaging Center, the Center for Information Technology & Society, and the Graduate Emphasis in Cognitive Science.
