Greetings, Colleagues!

Illinois Learning Specialists and Developmental Educators (ILSADE) invite you to our 2016 conference, "Defining Point A: Best Practices in Assessing College and Career Readiness," which will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 at Heartland Community College. Our preliminary schedule is attached.

The ever changing landscape of higher education demands that we ask the following: what, and where, is 'Point A'? How do we define students' entry points to college? Based on the literacy and numeracy skills that they bring, how do we designate them and subsequently distinguish the best possible resources to make transfer and career programs accessible?

With the current and emerging gamut of tests and initiatives in secondary and post-secondary education, points of entry/access have become relative to so many factors. For instance, to what extent are relationships with feeder high schools fostered? How are standardized tests, placement tests, and other kinds of data used? To what extent do students' academic skills play into transfer and career programs? How are the unique needs of traditional and nontraditional students supported? These answers influence how we identify students and place them on different pathways.

At this year's conference, we hope to generate a conversation around what it now means when we determine that students are ready for college. Each college and university has different points and rules for entry, so the concept of readiness seems relative to the assessments and interventions available. What works today? What will/should we try in the future? What variables should we consider? Why?

This promises to be a stimulating day, so please join us! Visit http://ilsade.weebly.com/membership.html to register by Friday, April 1st. Contact [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> if you have any questions.

Best Regards,
