Hello BESTers,

A new study out of the UK indicates that collecting source separated
food waste and other organics from anaerobic digestion or composting is
actually more cost-effective than collecting everything as garbage.
Source separated means the business or resident has a separate can just
for organics that is collected separately from garbage and recycling.
This practice is much more common on the commercial side than on the
residential side, although there is still a long way to go to have
wide-spread source separated organics collection. Often times,
economics are the argument against organics collection; however, when
looking at the entire picture, this article makes the case that it is
actually more economical to source separate. While the economics of
waste collection vary significantly between countries, states, and
localities, the general conclusions of this study can provide important
insight that can apply everywhere.

Have a great weekend,

Ryan
