There's a great training module on this topic in the CRLA's Handbook for Training Peer Tutors and Mentors <http://crla.net/index.php/publications/handbook-for-training-peer-tutors-mentors>.
It addresses a number of "styles" of difficulty students may present with, along with practical methods for working with those students and resolving the difficulties.
