Online and offline social networks and the development of sexual agency

The purpose of this ARC-funded project is to investigate the relationship
between social network properties of adolescents and healthy sexual
development, in particular, the development of sexual agency.

The PhD candidate will be responsible for the development of the social
network theoretical framework and methodology for the study. This includes
conducting a review of the literature in the space of social networks and
sexual health to suggest a theoretical framework for the study and includes
designing the social network data collection process, survey,
implementation and network data analysis. It is envisaged that social
network data collection will occur both in online (e.g. online diaries) and
offline modes (e.g. in-depth interviews).

The PhD student will be supervised by Dr. Ken Chung, in collaboration with
the project team comprising academics from the City University of New York,
the University of Sydney, University of New South Wales and the Burnet
Institute. The PhD student will be joining the team’s ARC Discovery Project
“Online and Offline social networks and the development of sexual agency”
within the Faculty of Engineering & Information Technologies, University of
Sydney. The project has strong connections with the Research Cluster on
Complex Systems:
