Wolf Power Systems Installs CHP System at On-Farm Anaerobic Digestion Plant
Waste Management World

Hello BEST community,
As we have seen in the last post, with proper management it is possible to treat and clean slaughterhouse waste. Along with purifying the wastewater produced by these facilities, it is also possible
to utilize the scraps and byproducts of meat production in order to create energy and fertilizer. A German Combined Heat & Power firm, Wolf Power Systems, has recently installed a 550 kW co-generation plant on a pig farm located in Turriff, Scotland. The pig
farm has a running anaerobic digester, which uses abattoir (slaughterhouse) material and food waste as feedstock. The digester produces biogas, which is now used by the co-generation plant to produce electricity. Along with electricity, the digester also produces
digestate, which is a nutrient rich byproduct used on the farm as fertilizer. The use of an anaerobic digester and co-generation plant to process slaughterhouse "waste" is a sustainable system, and demonstrates that a potential burden can be converted into
a valuable resource when the right facilities and mindset are in place.
