The position start date is flexible but preference is given to a near term commitment. The postdocs will work with an interdisciplinary team of faculty collaborators: Daniel A. McFarland (Education, Sociology and Organizational Behavior), Jure Leskovec (Computer Science), and Dan Jurafsky (Linguistics and Computer Science). In general, we seek a computational social scientist with expertise in social network analysis, natural language processing, and social science disciplines who is interested in exploring big data. Ideal candidates can come from several different backgrounds: -- phd is sociology with strong emphasis on computational methods and data science -- phd in computer science with strong emphasis on data science and social network analysis -- phd in socio-linguistics with strong emphasis on natural language processing and computational linguistics Projects will range from purely computational/algorithmic analysis of large communities and social networks and text, to substantive studies of actual research communities and their evolution. The research team's focal project concerns corpora related to academic knowledge creation (papers, patents, etc) and attempts to map the formation and decline of knowledge domains, the diffusion of ideas, and the rise of innovation.
