2017 Campus Water Matters Challenge

Adequate supply and quality of water is one of most urgent challenges facing our society.  By housing a sizable population and covering an expansive and diverse landscape, the UF campus is a microcosm of the larger-scale water challenge.  The Campus Water Matters Challenge is a student design competition focused on advancing water sustainability on SEC university campuses and provides awards to the first ($1,000), second ($500), or third ($250) place teams.  Sustainability of campus water resources includes all aspects, from conservation and increased efficiency of drinking water, to reducing pollution entering streams and lakes, and even to effectively communicating the value of water to diverse populations.

The UF Campus Water Matters Team is not limited to students in a particular department or college, and participation by students from a broad range of disciplines is encouraged.  Any student, graduate or undergraduate, interested in improving campus water sustainability is invited and welcome to attend an informational meeting on Tuesday, October 25, at 6:00 PM in 122 Rogers Hall (pizza and drinks will be provided).  The meeting will  overview of the competition will be presented and possible directions for the UF team will be discussed.

A primary objective of this meeting will be to identify students that can commit to leading and contributing the UF Campus Water Matters Team.  Follow up meeting times will be discussed at this meeting. Please email the team faculty advisor, Dr. Eban Bean ([log in to unmask]), if you plan to attend the meeting or if you are unable to attend but wish to participate and be notified of future team meetings.
