Tiffany, Keeping the tutors busy working with students in their subject areas is the absolute best was to keep them fresh and up-to-date with the subject matter. This is one of the benefits of becoming a tutor; I generally mention this perk of the position when recruiting new tutors. Typically, students have to pay for courses they audit (at our institution, it is half of what they would pay to simply take the class). My tutors don't make enough money to cover the cost of auditing a class, and of course there's not enough wiggle room in the budget to pay the cost of auditing on top of tutors' wages. Unless your institution has different policies on auditing, I'd recommend against that option. I've been racking my brain on ways that our tutors can stay refreshed and abreast in the academic areas that they assist students with. I was wondering if auditing classes is the best way to go? Does this have any academic affect on the tutors transcripts, especially for those tutors who are still taking classes at the institution? I'm looking for any advice on what would be the best approach and what type of system that can be put in place that would keep our tutors updated. Thank you in advance. Tiffany M.
