The Associate Director is responsible for the planning, design, supervision, evaluation, and budget implementation of CSL component programs and assumes duties in the absence of the Director. Supervises tutoring staff, labs, and ensures execution of complex programming and logistics related to academic and student support programs.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelorís degree and at least two years of progressively responsible experience in higher education administration or related field and experience directing one or more components of comprehensive academic support programs at a large higher education institution. Masterís degree is preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of the basic principles and theories of student development and educational administration. Knowledge of the policies and procedures affecting the assigned program area(s). Understanding of student confidentiality and compliance with Federal, State, and institutional policy. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, and the general public; and to identify, develop and implement programs and activities that will benefit the campus community. Must be familiar with a variety of software applications and adept at using technology. Ability to provide supportive counseling for a wide range of academic problems and concerns; and ability to supervise, train and evaluate personnel. Effective written and oral communication skills are required Ė duties involve frequent presentations and public speaking. Familiarity with CRLA certification processes and requirements.

Salary: *39,960-$56,947

Duties:

      Manages the accounting, natural sciences, decision sciences, computer science labs and by-appointment tutoring. Collaborating with faculty to recruit, hire, and train tutors. Creating lab schedules to accommodate student needs. Ensures that personnel and funding resources are available to support labs.

      Supervises the departmental data coordinator. Recruits and supervises a large staff of student academic tutors (155) and peer academic coaches (6). Assigns peer academic coaches to students based on individual academic needs. Recruits, supervises, and assigns Peer Leaders (5) to course instructors and ensures a smooth transition of Peer Leaders into the classroom. Designs and conducts employee training and annually evaluates staff and student performance.

      Meets with students to assess needs and recommend strategies for academic success. Designs individual learning plans and approaches and encourages independent learning and academic accountability. Annual student appointment caseload approximately 400-500.

      Manages the tutor certification process including developing training opportunities for tutors. Designing certification workshops to facilitate monitoring of tutoring progress. Communicating with the College Reading and Learning Association to ensure compliance with best practices and CAS standards.

      Annually assesses programs and departmental operations and provides reports and strategic plans for improvements and enhancements to programs and services. Oversees and evaluates data processing development and reporting related to program assessment and evaluation. Ensures accuracy of data and compliance with established Center procedures. Makes certain any applicable student records/material adhere to FERPA guidelines.

      Designs and presents study strategy workshops and related events for students. Creates and maintains academic success resources for departmental and website access. Coordinates workshop and event logistics with appropriate campus departments. Develops marketing and publicity plans to ensure that campus is aware of events.

      Responds to student and parent inquiries. Prepares speeches, publications, and presentations concerning campus and program activities. Acts as a campus and community resource person for special events and projects. Attends professional conferences and participates in professional organizations related to program area.

Additional Comments:

Occasional overnight travel for professional conferences. May require early morning, evening, and occasional weekend work during peak periods, campus events, and training.
