*Description*
Indiana University is making a multi-year, multi-million dollar investment
to create and expand the infrastructure for research and training in
network science through the establishment of the Indiana University Network
Science Institute (IUNI). IUNI seeks applicants for a research scientist
opening in Social Science; rank commensurate with qualifications and
experience. Qualified candidates will have completed a PhD in sociology,
political science, business, management, complex systems, or other relevant
discipline.

The primary role of this position is to conduct research and technical
activities that arise in the area of social network analysis carried out as
part of the Institute’s research mission. The work of this position will
focus particularly on egocentric or personal network research and
potentially some whole or complete network analysis. Knowledge of
community-based survey methods is required.
The incumbent will play a key role on the cohort study that is part of the
recently announced IU Grand Challenge Precision Health Initiative (
http://grandchallenges.iu.edu/). In the early years, the incumbent will
lead the population-based cohort survey of the adult population of Indiana
residents, which has a multi-faceted study design similar to the first
stage of the Adolescent Health Study (Add Health). The incumbent will have
the opportunity to be involved from the beginning in the development of the
study protocol and data collection processes, as well as training and
supervising field staff. The position will be based in Bloomington, Indiana
and some in-state travel will be required. In addition, the incumbent will
have access to a wide range of other data sources and some time to pursue
his or her own research agenda. Core activities of the position also
include grant writing, data analysis and interpretation, presentation and
publication of scientific findings.
Importantly, the incumbent will enjoy a primary affiliation with the
relatively new, Indiana University Network Science Institute (IUNI), a
global leader in interdisciplinary network science (http://iuni.iu.edu/).
IUNI is the result of a multi-million dollar investment by the university’s
highest levels of administration to create a collaborative resource for
cutting edge network science across IU’s campuses. Disciplines represented
by IUNI affiliated faculty are too numerous to mention and include,
physics, computer science, sociology, neuroscience, medicine, dentistry,
toxicology, cognitive science, computational social science, informatics,
library science, political science, bioinformatics and more. These
researchers study a range of topics from mental health stigma, to
addictions, brain connectomics, social media, alzheimer’s disease, science
of science, cancer biology, the environment, and more.

*Basic Qualifications*
Qualified candidates will have completed a PhD in sociology, political
science, business or management, complex systems, or other relevant
discipline.

*Application instructions*
Interested candidates should review the requirements at:
http://indiana.peopleadmin.com/postings/3243 and submit their application
including a cover letter that describes a network science research agenda
and how applicants might engage in collaborative research projects with
IUNI faculty, CV, and the name, email address and institutional
affiliation/position of three references. Applications will be accepted
until the position is filled. Applications must be submitted via Indiana
University’s online applicant tracking system for consideration. Questions
