RE: International Students: Enroll Now For Spring A, 2017 Scholarly Writing and Advanced Oral Proficiency classes

Scholarly Writing

The Spring A Scholarly Writing class will begin January 24th and end March 2nd. The class will meet 5:10pm - 6:25pm T,R in Matherly 214. The last day to request enrollment or drop the class will be Thursday, January 26th.

Scholarly Writing (formerly EAP 5845 and EAP 5846) is designed to help international graduate students improve their academic writing skills. The course offers the opportunity to develop the ability to write an academic paper as well as to improve sentence level vocabulary, grammar, and use of cohesive devices and other features of good quality academic literacy. Individual help with writing assignments students are currently working on, including theses, dissertations, journal articles, and curricula vitae, is also available.

The Scholarly Writing course is offered as a non-credit class lasting six weeks. This class is not eligible for a tuition waiver and is not offered as a distance education class. The cost of a six-week section is $350.

 Advanced Oral Proficiency

The Academic Spoken English unit will offer a six-week, non-credit, advanced oral proficiency in English course. The purpose of this course is to diagnose student fluency problems in English and to introduce self-practice methods and online resources to aid students interested in advancing their oral language proficiency. While not intended as a SPEAK-test preparation course, a commitment to improving spoken fluency in English may result in an improved assessment on oral proficiency tests. Students will exit the course more aware of their individual fluency challenges and with a clear idea about how to make progress on their own.

This class will meet 3 hours/week and will start on Monday January 31. The class meeting days/times will be determined once we have schedule information for those interested students. The cost of this course will be $500 for the six-week course. This class is not eligible for a tuition waiver and is not offered as a distance education class. Registration in this course will be limited.
