RE: McKnight Doctoral Fellowship Program: University of Florida Funding Structure Effective Fall 2017
This memo is to discuss the new funding structure for the McKnight Doctoral Fellows Program. As you may know, the goal of the program is to provide additional funding support for participating departments to recruit and enroll competitive Black and Hispanic PhD applicants. Notably, the graduation rate of McKnight scholars at UF is over 80%. The following link provides the guidelines for the revised funding structure for the McKnight Doctoral Fellowship Program effective Fall 2017: http://www.graduateschool.ufl.edu/media/graduate-school/pdf-files/McKnight-Doctoral-Fellowship-Program-UF-Funding-Structure-Effective-Fall-2017.pdf
This policy change will not affect currently enrolled McKnight Doctoral fellows. For current fellows, we will continue the funding agreements already in place.
The new funding structure will be effective Fall 2017 for newly enrolled McKnight Doctoral Fellows. Please note that as of Fall 2017 all McKnight Doctoral Fellows will have research or teaching assistantships in their respective academic units to ensure they are fully engaged within their academic units. The guidelines provide the details for the funding structure for the program.
The University typically gets 14-20 McKnight new fellows annually. We are looking to exceed that range this coming year.
