Hello all!

Can anyone tell me how they organize and advertise drop-in tutoring at their center? Do you set it up by subject? Do you list all the courses available for tutoring during the drop-in time?

Hello,

At the moment we use several methods:

·         Walk-in.- Students come study and if they have questions they can get help. Helps those students that due to their work schedules can set appointments.

·          Appointment.- 1-1 tutoring. Recurring appointment for all the semester. Students that come to Walk-in services tend to switch over. We work with Counselors in order to facilitate services to the ones that needed the most

·         Embedded Tutoring.- works wonder in and out of class. We are able to target a larger population for a fraction of the cost.

·         PLTL model.- We are on our pilot semester.

The biggest problem with keeping up with appointment tutoring is the scheduling of the students and tutors keeping an eye on their schedules.

We are appointment-based; however, we have three full-time tutors who see any student who drops-in during an unscheduled time.  Sometimes this even leads to quick study groups right before an upcoming test.  Drop-ins are usually shorter than full appointments.  We encourage ‘answering quick questions’ and signing up for an individual appointment.

We’ve found that using appointments to guarantee one-one tutoring is a huge need; as a tutor, then, I can identify the ‘learning gap’  that may go undetected in small groups or in the classroom.  C

Subject: Changing Tutoring Program Model

Greetings Colleagues,

We are investigating changing our drop-in tutorial program to appointment based or another alternative.  I would appreciate any insights from programs that did make a change.  Especially the reason for the change and life after the change.

Feel free to email me directly.

Best,
