Emerging Research Challenges And Opportunities in Computational Social Network Analysis and Mining

Call for Papers

The study of social networks originated in the social science, anthropology, and business communities. In recent years, social network research has advanced significantly; the development of advanced techniques for Social Network Analysis and Mining (SNAM) has been highly influenced by the internet, the social web, and other large-scale, socio-technical infrastructures, which are widely analyzed using graph theory, statistics, and data mining and machine learning techniques. People perceive the Web increasingly as a social medium that fosters interaction among people, sharing of experiences and knowledge, group activities, and community formation and evolution. These trends have led to a rising prominence of SNAM in academia, politics, homeland security, and business.

The edited book welcomes theoretical, analytical, and empirical contributions using any kind of research method, including experiments, primary data from social media logs, case studies, simulations, surveys, and so on. Submissions are encouraged to examine emerging research challenges and opportunities in computational social network analysis and mining. The target audience for this book will consist of researchers, practitioners, and graduate students from the various disciplines including (but not limited to) sociology, behavioral science, computer science, psychology, cultural study, information systems, operations research and communication. This is not a college textbook. However, it can be used as a reference text for advanced courses on Social Network Analysis, Sociology, Communication, Organisation Theory, Cyberpolitics, Information Technology and Justice, among numerous others.

Through this edited volume, we intend to create a venue to bring together researchers and practitioners from different disciplines, to share, exchange, learn, and develop preliminary results, new concepts, ideas, principles, and methodologies, aiming to advance the area of computational social science.
