Niagara has a deadline for requesting a tutor. It’s the same as the last day for withdrawal from a course, about 2/3 through the semester. We notify students that the deadline is approaching and it makes them think about how they’re doing and if they’re okay going it alone. There’s usually a small flurry of students who put in requests at the end, but not too bad. The main benefit is it helps us figure out budget needs until the end of the semester as we don’t have to add tutors at that point. We are also able to observe tutors and assess outcomes towards the end of the semester. We also add higher level training (CRLA) opportunities at that point so tutors are in a good position for the beginning of the next semester. I hope this is useful information for you.
We are discussing adding a deadline for tutoring requests at our center. I wanted to see if any other learning centers have a last day to request a tutor and what are the potential the benefits of doing so? We currently accept requests on a continuous basis through the last of the semester.
