Appointments are typically made at the beginning of the salary range. This is a full-time, 
benefited, 11/12 pay plan (work 11 months with pay and benefits over 12 months) position 
with a one-year probationary period in the Learning Center. Humboldt State University is 
located in Arcata, California, and is the northern most university in the California State 
University system.

Under lead oversight of the Learning Center Director, the STEM Learning Specialist helps 
university students strengthen academic skills, particularly in science and math. The 
Specialist oversees the science and math peer tutoring labs and works directly with 
students. The Specialist assesses student needs, guides peer support, hires and trains 
tutors, develops and conducts workshops, and collaborates with faculty and staff. In 
particular, the Specialist will work closely with science faculty to fulfill the mission of the 
Hispanic Serving Institute (HSI) STEM grant, a grant designed to increase the number of 
Hispanic and low-income students graduating with degrees in STEM disciplines.
