Hi,

A bit different than what you are asking, but wanted to share in case it helps, anyway…

At the end of April each year we hold a tutor certification ceremony and senior spotlight event.  During the ceremony we recognize all the tutors who have become CRLA certified that year and the seniors who are graduating.  We call up each senior up individually and share a short bio including how many tutees they’ve had during their time, how many total hours they tutored, and then one or two nice things tutees said about them during their evaluations.  We give them a graduating gift- luckily, our alumni office always has extra swag they are willing to give us.  In the past they have given us Albright alumni mugs, car decals, Albright pins, etc.  Check with your alumni office to see if they have left over goodies they are looking to get rid of! We also provide food at the ceremony and a slide show of pictures from that past year.  While it isn’t something they can wear at graduation, students really like getting recognized at the ceremony and it’s become a goal of our tutors to get the most hours tutored out of all the other graduating tutors.

Thanks,

Rebecca

We just started using the CRLA certified pins they sell on the CRLA website.  The tutors wear them during the ceremony at graduation.  I love the idea of the puzzle piece.  The idea of cords was great but I haven’t been able to get buy in from the college so for now the pins are great.

We provide a puzzle piece pin when staff join our department, which they wear during their employment.  I’ve noticed that some of our graduates have worn that pin, as well as their CRLA certification pins, during the commencement ceremonies.

We are looking into something more formal such as a cord but haven’t made a final decision yet.  Apparently anything that you officially provide needs to be cleared by the office on campus that handles commencement, which seems reasonable.  You might reach out at your institution to see if there are any internal guidelines you need to follow.

I’m wondering if anyone does anything special for their tutors that are graduating. Do you provide a cord, medal, or pin to wear at graduation? I have a few students that have been tutoring in the center longer than I’ve been coordinator. They have fared through several personnel changes and continued to do an awesome job without complaint. My tutors, indeed, are a phenomenal bunch and were so helpful in my transition. I really want to do something special for them.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Best,

Charles
