The Department of Defense Analysis at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California, is seeking to fill a tenure-track position, open as to rank, in military operational modeling and analytical decision-making methods. The preferred candidate will have teaching experience at the undergraduate level, at a minimum, and a publication record in deterministic and stochastic modeling, and both decision and game theory, preferably with defense applications. The candidate must have an interest in interdisciplinary research and willingness to work with a cross-disciplinary faculty in the areas of irregular warfare, campaign design, network analysis, operational art, and strategic decision-making. Evidence of the ability to pursue a program of innovative research and a strong commitment to graduate and undergraduate education is required. Position responsibilities include teaching, research, and thesis oversight. NPS follows a quarter system, and the normal teaching workload for tenure-track faculty is four courses per year.
The Naval Postgraduate School is located on the central coast of California in Monterey, 115 miles south of the heart of San Francisco. NPS provides graduate education to an average at any given time of 1,500 resident military officers of the uniformed services, Department of Defense civilians, and members of the international defense community, as well as other select professionals employed by the federal government.
The Department of Defense Analysis offers a MS in Defense Analysis and a MS in Information Strategy and Political Warfare. Home to an average of 150 in-residence graduate students, a cross-disciplinary teaching and research faculty of 40 personnel, and three research centers, the Department of Defense Analysis provides the critical thinking skills necessary for future national security leaders to deal with the complex operating environments of the 21st Century.
